The first step in creating a PDF file is to create a Postscript file from your page layout apllication. It is critical that the Postscript file that you create includes the following settings:

Final File Preparation
Convert text to paths whenever possible
Convert all RGB Files to CMYK (remember, spot/PMS colors are not available)

Required Settings for Creating a Postscript File
Do not include blank pages
Set registration as “centered” / Turn on crop marks
Set bleed at .125”
Set offset for crop marks at 6 pt
Use Acrobat Distiller as the Printer Description
Set your width and height for the PostScript file to be 1” larger than the original file size for both width and height
Center the file on the page
Write files as “Composite CMYK” (Remember, no spot colors)
Set resolution to 2400 DPI
Set frequency or line screen to 175
Include all fonts and images
ASCII or Binary is acceptable
Postscript Level 1,2,or 3 is acceptable

Creating a PDF File
Once you have created a PostScript file, you’re ready to Distill it as PDF file. Be sure to use the “job options” Distill for PRESS

Now, you’re ready to “drag and drop” your PostScript file onto Distiller to create a PDF file. (Pay close attention, as Distiller will create an error log if the program encounters any problem in creating the PDF). To test your own PDF file, open it and print it.

Providing a Contract Proof
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE THE PDF FILE TO GENERATE THE REQUIRED CONTRACT PROOF WE’LL USE ON PRESS.
